AL BIERNAT’S OAK LAWN
The story of Al Biernat’s begins with a young Al having a passion for skiing. So much so at the tender age of eighteen Al left his native Detroit Michigan and headed out west to seek his fortune as a self-avowed “Ski bum”. Al’s travels landed him in Aspen Colorado. The time was the 1970’s and disco was king. In order to support his skiing habit, Al needed a job. His search led him to the famed nightclub Paragon where he worked the oyster bar. From Paragon Al set his sights on New York City and the Palm restaurant. The New York Palm was “family run” and Al was told he’d have to go to California if he wanted a job at the Palm. It was at the Hollywood Palm where Al worked his way up from busboy to eventually become manager.
Al did an amazing job in Hollywood and The Palm was expanding its reach across the USA. Al was tapped to open The Palm in Houston, Texas. The Houston store was a raging success, and it was there that Al met his lovely future wife Jeannie.
Bolstered by his success in Houston, Al was charged with opening The Palm in Dallas. Known for its power lunches and its see and be seen dinner crowd, The Dallas Palm ruled the dining scene throughout the 1980s and well into the 1990’s under Al’s direction.
Fast forward to the year 1998. A beautiful restaurant on Oak Lawn Avenue in Dallas became available for lease. Al and Jeannie acquired the lease and procured the idyllic spot perched on the edge of Highland Park and uptown. Although the first couple of years could be aptly described as dire, Al, Jeannie never lost faith. Hard work and perseverance do pay off though and now, decades later, Al Biernat’s is the premier steakhouse in Dallas. Attracting customers from all over the world, Al continues to provide his guests with unmatched service, the best steak, and the feeling of warmth that can only be delivered when it is genuine and comes from the heart. Al has assembled a team of family-oriented professionals that share his passion and vision for providing our guests with the same great service that he made a hallmark of his career.
